The Hymn of the Day: Boast in the God of Heaven

Boast in the God of Heaven

Genesis 1:26–27, John 1:14, Isaiah 7:14 and 9:6, Luke 1-2, Matthew 17:2-5, Exodus 24:15–18, John 19-20, Mark 14:50, Hebrews 2:14-15 and 12:24, Psalm 107:16, Acts 1:9–11, Revelation 7:9–17

1
Boast in the God of Heaven,
The one eternal Lord,
Who made man in his image
To love his holy word;
In faithfulness and mercy
His people set apart,
And planned for our redemption,
All blessings to impart.

2
Boast in the incarnation,
That God would not forsake
His children to their torment,
But human flesh should take.
The Only Son incarnate,
As prophets long foretold,
Is born of virgin mother,
As jub'lant hosts behold.

3

Boast in the Lord transfigured,
His face arrayed in light,
In glory on the mountain
As once on Sinai's height.
For Moses and Elijah,
For all his name has sealed,
Our Jesus, King Messiah,
To faith has been revealed.

4
Boast in the crucifixion,
The thorns and nails and spear,
The beating and the mocking,
The friends who fled in fear.
For not a word of judgement
But blessing here he gives,
Proclaims that it is finished,
And dies that we shall live.

5
Boast in the blood of sprinkling
That speaketh better things
Than of the blood of Abel,
Here shed by Christ our king.
And now into the chalice
His holy life is poured,
To drown all Satan's malice
And quench the burning sword.

6
Boast in the resurrection,
When Christ burst from the tomb,
And death and devil felling
Hath banished all our gloom.
The bars of hell lie shattered,
The gates wide open stand,
For all his Christian people
Unto their promised land.

7
Boast in the Lord's ascension,
His raising up on high,
Where we shall surely follow,
His throne forever nigh.
And at his feet reclining,
With saints and martyrs raise
To Father, Son and Spirit
Unending songs of praise.
