Chess

I'm writing my short story from the point of view of the Black King that sits in the gigantic chess piece cabinet on the IPFW campus. The issue with my topic is the amount of work it takes to write such a piece. I can't just sit down and write this one. I need to sit, write, play some chess, get back to writing, and repeat. Laying out the conflict and devising a personality for a chess piece is harder than I thought it would be.

Don't get me wrong, fun, but harder than schoolwork.

Dinner beckons. A summons I dare not refuse.

  1. Interesting. I once wrote a story based on a song (well, based more on the images in my mind produced by listening to the song); I listened to the song itself at least seven times in close succession, thinking through what I was writing.

  2. Well enough. I spent five hours one night, and four the following morning, and got through the whole thing. I actually mark it as the point where I started writing things that did not, when you got right down to it, suck.

Despite that, the story is pretty flawed and I intend to re-write it some time in the future.

  3. I would be happy to read it if ever you have it to the point where you are pleased with it.
